What I Wore: A Garden Party
I was recently invited to the Vandusen Botanical Garden's First Annual Garden Party and Croquet Classic. Interestingly I had just visited Truffles Café for tea with some colleagues, but I had not been in the gardens themselves for some time. A summer afternoon Garden Party seemed the perfect excuse.
I pulled out a long time owned, but only infrequently worn linen dress perfect for a hot summer event. The dress is a cream colour so it needs a bold necklace to keep me from looking washed out. I picked the teal and green from the pattern and matched my necklace and shoes accordingly. I grabbed a cream canvas shoulder bag with a bit of green edging and hand drawn artwork.

It was a hot afternoon, so I put my hair up. As my hair is getting longer I am experimenting with it. This time I did some back combing and a pony tail, which I pulled back through to make a little more interesting. This also works well when you want to wear a hat over a pony tail.
The styles at the event were rather interesting. Lots of pretty summer dresses and hats or fascinators. I was impressed with those that could wear stilettos on the grass (I was glad for my practical wedges). And the men all seemed to have gotten the memo about Bermuda shorts or rolled up pants, button down shirt, a bow tie or suspenders, and sometimes finished with a hat. And sometimes all of the above! Their colour choices were bold and some great pattern mixing too.
After my friend and I spent some quality time sitting on a lovely picnic blanket, drinking cocktails and eating some nibbles, we took a tour of the cars on display. And dreamed a bit.
Then we wandered around the gardens a bit. Before settling down by this lovely pond for a lovely chat.
I suspect the Vandusen Garden is also lovely to walk through once all the fall colours arrive. And then again at Christmas when they do some fantastic holiday lights.
