Part 3 of 4 in a Series on Spring Trends.

Florals, dots, stripes, tribal, graphic and more patterns on all over the stores this spring. And we aren't just wearing them alone. We are mixing them together.

One of my favourite parts of spring and summer is dresses. So easy to get dressed in the morning. Easy to dress up for work or dress down for the weekend. Easy to wear.  Frankly so easy to love. Yes, we know I have a weakness for dresses.

Left to right: silk crepe Flow dress by Nicole Bridger ($228), floral silk dress with jersey back by Marina Rinaldi and available at Toni+ ($480), and bamboo/spandex Kimberly dress by Broken Doll ($112).

Patterns can also be easy to wear along a solid piece.  The easiest way to do this is to wear it with a solid in a colour from the pattern.  And don't forget that patterns aren't just for tops. There are some fun pants, especially florals, available this season.

Left to Right: Floral Cropped Skinny Jeans from Addition Elle ($89.99) and silk ikat Aspect Halter by WE3 ($179) -  this can be worn several ways check out the video.

This is also the year to start experimenting with pattern mixing. It can be as easy as wearing a floral scarf with a striped t-shirt.  Again a tip to getting started is pick patterns that have a colour in common, or within a colour family. And don't pick 2 patterns with the same size pattern. If you are feeling very adventurous try a 3rd pattern, see the picture below right where the top 2 patterns are both based in black and white and the 3rd is a subtle floral in the jeans.

Left to right: black and white striped low scoop back tank ($32), turned cuff Yoga skinnies ($120), Mavi Denim jacket ($98) - coral and black polka dot blouse ($79),  floral slim pants ($92) - striped tank with low scoop back ($32) and floral pants.  All items available at Plum.

Please share any pattern mixing tips you might have in the comments below.
