Spring 2013 Trend Series Part 1

The weather may not seem like it is quite ready for spring, but my allergies tell me it is coming. I am so looking forward to shedding some of the winter clothing layers. And in Spring 2013 there really is something for everyone whether it be menswear, lady like silhouettes, lace, leather, metallic or layered.

For this spring series I am going break the spring trends along colour lines.  There is likely a shape  this season that works for everyone in whichever colour or pattern that interests you.  I thought it would be appropriate to start with the non colours of black and white.

Bold stripes and graphic prints are everywhere, in all colours, this spring. But it is the clean look of black and white that makes the boldest statement to me.

And for those looking to buy clothes that will work hard for them, black and/or white (and grey) continued to make strong statements on the fall 2013 catwalk.

I think the nicest part of going black and white is it is easy to make it as bold as you want. And you might have the elements required in your closet today. It can be as simple as pairing a black dress with white accessory. Compassion Dress in black with printed silk scarf from Vancouver designer Nicole Bridger.

Look for a dress that can work everyday, dressed up for work or paired with sandals for the weekend. Maya dress by Vancouver design Jovani.

Invest in a dress for those special summer occasions (and winter ones too) that will make an impact entering and leaving the part. Knit with Lace insert dress by Vancouver designer Jacqueline Conoir.

Pair a graphic black and white element with a strong white  piece. White peplum and graphic pants from Addition Elle.

Black and white elements, whether they be solid, stripes or patterns also play nice with other trends this season. Pair them with a bit of bold colour or mix it up with other patterns.

My spring black and almost white purchase, included a black and cream polka dot sheer tunic/dress from Old Navy, seen worn by me here. It was a nice addition to the other black and white items in my closet, such as my black and white striped Joe Fresh t-shirt, black and white zebra print scarf which both make a bold addition to almost any outfit.

I have more great spring ideas on pinterest, like this outfit pairing black pants with a black graphic sweater with a set of bold scissors in white. Or this great layered black and white look from Jean Paul Gaulthier Spring runway show.
