Fashion Flashback Friday – A Bright Dress Review
Back in the 80s I wore a lot of neon and bright colours. My favourite was hot pink. But I also owned and wore a lot of salmon coloured pieces. So I was a bit hesitant this spring when that bright salmon colour came back into style. The question was could I wear a bright colour like that the second time around.
It was convenient that Fresh Produce Clothing approached me as I was pondering this question. Fresh Produce has a line of easy going, comfortable clothing (most of it made in the USA) for women. And they have a lot of colourful clothes this season. So I picked this bright salmon (they actually call it Sunrise) Pinktuck Tank dress. It is a cute casual dress, perfect for summer. It is a bit looser than I normally wear, but I expect I can belt it with different outfits. And frankly I really need an simple summer dress, that still looks stylish, while I chase after my son this summer. So I test drove the dress on a Friday, for maximum pre-schooler wrangling.
Dresses can be the ultimate in lazy. You throw it on and go. One step less than yoga pants and a t-shirt. And 100 times as cute. I was surprised by the number of complements I received when wearing the dress - I probably logged a dozen unsolicited comments from people that day. Apparently I looked bright and cheery in my new dress, even though I was feeling tired and sloppy. I always feel a bit sloppy when I don't have time to deal with my hair in the morning - hence the hat. As the weather was a bit chilly, I threw on my trusty jean jacket and finished it off with my white Camper sneakers.
I had hoped to also wear the dress with a blazer or cardigan to work. But I decided it was a bit too short to wear without nylons to the office. And by late May I am tired of nylons. But I know the dress will work well in the fall with a t-shirt or shirt underneath, tights and boots.
The most important answer is that YES I can do the bright neon salmon colour the second time around.
Pros
- Made in the USA
- Comfortable and easy to throw on and go
- Easy to wash and care for
- Great colour
- Fresh Produce ship to 200 countries
- Wide range of sizes, including a wide selection of Plus Size clothes
- Will be easy to transition to cooler weather with a t-shirt underneath, tights and some boots.
Cons
- My wider bra straps will show under this dress
- A bit too short for work without tights/nylons - even on casual days
- They can't currently accommodate exchanges from online purchases
- No shoulder measurement in online sizing chart - I have narrow shoulders and this can really affect fit for me.
Fresh Produce has a wide range of fun tropical dresses, great cruise clothes (for your upcoming summer vacation) and what they call California fashion.
Disclosure - Fresh Produce sent me this dress free of charge in order to do a review. The thoughts and comments in the review are mine. And thanks to my friend @jonbreisnes who took a few minutes away from his newborn at the park to take my picture.
