I didn't watch Sex and the City from the beginning. I had to catch up sometime mid-season (thankfully it launched in Canada later than the US).  But over the past 12 years I've learnt a few things from the fab foursome:

  1. It is okay to have a style distinct from that of your friends.  We all have different bodies, personalities and looks.  So why would we want to dress like either other?
  2. There is such a thing as sharing too much information. Thanks to Samantha I now understand the line which I must never cross.
  3. You can never have too many shoes. Unless of course spending all your savings on shoes makes it hard to put together a down-payment on an apartment (or when you have to buy-out your fiancée when you dump him).
  4. Flower pins are timeless.  I will admit to moving away from them for a few years, as they got a bit too popular from SATC. But I love that extra floral touch in a pin or in your hair.
  5. Confidence and attitude will take you a long way.
  6. You don't have to age gracefully and quietly. You can explode into your 40s and 50s just as loudly as you did your 20s & 30s.
  7. Feminism continues to be about choice. The girls may laugh at and tease each other for some of their personal choices.  But they each support and respect each other overall.  None of them is treated as any less of a person based on her choices.
  8. A movie with four female stars over 40 can rock the box office as well as the fashion scene.
  9. Boys come and go. But your girlfriends are always there to tell you how it really is and support you in good times and bad, for richer or poorer....
  10. Laughter really is the best medicine.   And if we can't laugh at ourselves our girlfriends will do it for us

.... and this video makes me laugh everytime.  You know we all have at least one of these in the back of our closet somewhere.... right... okay maybe that is just me.
