What I enjoyed about Lara Presber’s Spring/Summer 2011 line was the classic lines with unique details.   These are the type of clothes I could see in my closet for years.  These were beautiful classic dresses that complemented a grown woman’s curves.  And details like hand-made porcelain buttons.

Lara is an architect who started designing her clothing line in 2007.  Her designs merge both architecture and fashion by using ‘inhabitable’ spaces to inspire ‘wearable’ pieces.  As an architect she designs buildings intended to last for at least a lifetime.  So it makes sense that she designs clothes intended to last in your closet for many years.

Her Fall/Winter line is designed after the Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo, a unique structure completed in 1972 which boasts a design composed of two interconnected concrete towers which house 140 prefabricated self?contained modules or "capsules".

Like the capsules of the tower the fall winter line can be utilized alone, or grouped together with other garments in the collection to create a larger piece.

For her Spring/Summer 2011 Collection Lara took inspiration from the Art Gallery of Alberta, designed by a leading environmental architect Randall Stout.  The collection takes on the same rounded edges, extravagant shapes as the building’s architecture. With grey and cream mixed with metallic silver and highlights of teal.

I also like that Lara's designs are now available up to size 16. She designs for a more mature woman, and has started to recognize that we don't all fit into the traditional 2-12 sizes.

My favourite in the collection is this cream dress with lovely detail which creates very pretty movement when you move.  I’ve always loved dresses with elements that swing with the body, but this one is done so that the focus is brought to the middle of a woman’s body, and not our hips.   I also loved how it they styled it with the model’s single ponytail that moves in unison with the back of the dress.
